Iris was working at an international school in Singapore, specialising in coaching O/A level, IGCSE as well as IB students in Mathematics. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree from NUS, majoring in Mathematics. Being young and energetic, you can observe laughter and active participation from her classroom. Therefore, it is not uncommon for her students to improve from U to A within few months’ time and many of them have even developed a lifelong love for Mathematics.
Iris Yao Yuan
Nick has worked, lived, and studied in several countries over the past 10 years. He’s been in Singapore since 2013.
At the age of 16, he did an exchange program in Venezuela. It was at that time when he fully realized his love for languages and other cultures. In university, he went on to study Spanish Language and Literature. Throughout all his university career, he tutored Spanish and French. Nick also took up Linguistics, where he studied East Asian Language structures and in-depth pedagogical methods relating to language learning and teaching. After completing his studies in New York, he spent an extra year of university in California. It was there where he studied Communication Science, in areas such as Phonology and Speech therapy. All these studies have helped him to develop a well-rounded approach to teaching. After graduating, Nick taught at a Singapore International school in Thailand for one year, then moved to Singapore after that.
In Singapore, Nick has taught English and test prep to students of all ages and levels. He has helped those of diverse backgrounds achieve the results they need to succeed. He particularly focuses on areas such as IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, and English Language and literature. His unique background in language pedagogy and communication science allows him to gauge the students’ individual needs. Nicks feels that it’s important to provide students with the tools to not only achieve their short-term goals but provide skills that can build their confidence to become more self-reliant.
Ramesh has great interest in the English Language and has been on several teaching stints under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ ‘Teaching English as a Foreign Language ASEAN Initiative.’Here Singaporean lecturers teach English teachers in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar how to better improve their teaching techniques, approaches and strategies in week-long seminars.
He enjoys good conversation and always tries to inject humour in all his lessons. He is also an accomplished presenter and forum moderator at various Dialogues/National Education Forums at Temasek Polytechnic with respected speakers including former Education Minister and present Finance Minister, Mr Heng Swee Keat.
His work experience has always hinged on the use of language and how it can be a behaviour-modification tool. He spent a year at the National Institute of Education (NIE) here to hone his teaching craft. He is a firm believer in helping students explore and enjoy language learning. His students range from Singaporeans to overseas students from Myanmar, Vietnam and China.
His interest in the various information technologies has helped him in lecturing on Internet Journalism, Cross-Cultural Communication and Media Research at Temasek Polytechnic. He is well-versed in teaching approaches such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Scaffolding and Differentiated Learning.
After obtaining his Master of Arts degree in 1991, Jack began tutoring and teaching English Language to foreign and local students. He has taught in many private educational institutions, language schools, and tuition centres, Junior College Levels, as well as at Secondary and Primary Levels. He has also taught various academic English modules in Preparatory Programs that prepare students for IELTS and TOEFL. Between 1980 and 1985, Jack taught as an instructor in military schools in the army. In 1984, Jack was awarded the Singapore Armed Forces Good Service Medal by the Government of the Republic of Singapore. Jack continues to give group lessons and private tuition at various private schools in Singapore; teaching English Language, General Paper, Social Studies, Geography and History. He has previously taught Business English and Conversational English at the Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels.
Dr Sia Eng Kee
Eng Kee has a PhD from TU Darmstadt, Masters of Science from NTU, MBA from University of Stathclyde and Bachelor of Engineering from NTU. A seasoned teacher of Physics and Engineering with over a decade experience. He is well liked by high school students of an International school who loves to impart his vast knowledge and teachings through interesting ways.
Isaac was a financial underwriter for the insurance industry prior to making a career switch into teaching. He took his Post Graduate Diploma in teaching at the Secondary level in 2013, and has taught History and Social Studies in the Ministry of Education for 3 years.
Isaac has personally tutored many students from PRC China, as well as local students from a wide range of ability levels. He has deep teaching experience, and a strong track record of building engagement and producing high levels of achievement in Tertiary students and Secondary level students in the humanities.
He has also taught global current affairs and critical thinking through the humanities in Singapore Polytechnic, having been reviewed by Singapore Polytechnic to have excellent skills (5/5) in the following areas; lesson design, student engagement, deploying appropriate pedagogical methods and making complex concepts and thinking processes simple and practicable for students. He also taught research and writing, interview and resume writing, as well as leadership and teamwork skills in Singapore Polytechnic.
He went for further training as an English Language teacher with the British Council to teach foreign speakers English. He has tutored foreign students from Cambodia, Hong Kong and local students in O level English and the literature component of the IGCSE English paper. He has also taught English at the Primary level.
Isaac firmly believes in the importance of structure and interaction in the classroom. Aloysius, who did his varsity at Murdoch University and obtained a Masters of Business Administration from Murdoch , has many years of rich experience under his belt. Other than lecturing in Murdoch University (as well as a few other universities) and Temasek Polytechnic Business School, Aloysius also did research work, was appointed Marketing and Development Trainer by the governments of several countries such as Singapore, China, South Africa, Laos and Myanmar, in huge government projects. Apart from his publishing in Gaming Operations, Aloysius has also penned a few books and technical reports, on top of articles and conference papers which have been published. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and is respected as a guru in the marketing field across a wide spectrum ranging from FMCG products to Tourism to F&B.
Having been through the IB Diploma and pursued a BA in English, Amanda developed a love for studying literature and knows that any creative work can be read in a multitude of ways. Through her experience, she hopes that she can impart a sense of curiosity and open mindedness in her students, in addition to excelling at their studies.
While pursuing a TESOL Diploma with the British Education Centre, Amanda also learnt to implement engaging lead-in activities to tackle the subject of study so that the student will have a vested interest in the topics covered. She also teaches Bahasa Malaysia via Skype calls to foreign language students that are personally interested in the language.
Previously, Amanda had been a marketing and communications professional and tutored on the side. She has since taken the leap to being a dedicated tutor and brings her ability to write and communicate well into the lessons.
Nick has worked in several international schools in Singapore teaching programmes covering the International Baccalaureate (English Language and Literature SL and HL), IELTs and English O level syllabus. He is highly sought-after for his ability to break down complex grammar using custom audio-visual materials and mind maps. He also specialises in correcting pronunciation errors in common South-East Asian and East Asian accents using the fundamentals of the International Phonetic Alphabet. He has consistently acquired the highest lecturer evaluations in every school he has taught in and he has helped many students gain significant improvements in their marks.
In addition, Mr Terence Liew received a scholarship and obtained a distinction for his Masters degree in Finance and Investment
with University of Exeter (placed 7th in the UK University league table 2019 for accounting and finance). On completion of his Masters, he was offered a full scholarship for his doctorate education which he declined, and returned back to Singapore to pursue a career with a hedge fund company. Prior to him obtaining a Masters, he graduated with a Bachelor in Accounting and Finance with the London School of Economics, UOL (placed 38th in the QS World University ranking 2019) and worked as an Economics and Maths tutor to approximately 100 undergraduates for a year.
On his professional career, he has more than 14 years of experience as a finance professional with immense experience in investment and wealth management, having worked in the hedge fund industry, and thereafter as a Vice-President with HSBC whilst leading a premier banking centre, managing high net-worth clients and obtaining numerous banking awards. He is presently a director, serving the likes of high net-worth and ultra-high net-worth clients. Beside the above, he is also currently serving as an advisor to a couple of FinTech and cloud-related companies and embracing the new digital economy 4.0.
As an educator to more than 800 postgraduates, undergraduates, A-level and IB students in Economics, Finance and Maths for more than 13 years, Mr Terence firmly believe that education today should be forward looking instead of just textbook-based or theory- driven. Together with his rich professional experience, he is a new-edge educator: imparting lessons not only in a concise and structured manner but relating it to the world today. He seeks different ways to reach out to students to guide them in deeper thinking and the various ways to solve and comprehend the questions asked. His belief that “everyone will succeed in life” and patience have certainly instilled confidence to his students and is demonstrated through their improved results and better understanding of the world’s issues today, whilst equipping them for higher education and preparing themselves for the new economy.
Kateryna is passionate about enabling a genuine understanding and motivating her students to know more about chemistry. She has graduated with distinction from the National Technical University of Ukraine, an institution associated with the work of renowned scientists such as chemist Dmitri Mendeleyev, the inventor of the periodic table of elements, as well as engineer and spacecraft designer Sergei Korolev.
While completing her degree, Keteryna began teaching ecology and environmental chemistry at the Kyiv Palace of Children and Youth – an institution that enables extracurricular study and applied learning for various subjects. She went on to become a private tutor, thus continuing to help students achieve a better understanding of chemistry and life sciences while boosting their grades.
Kateryna’s hands-on experience in scientific research and laboratory work developed significantly during her time at the Ukrainian Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry and Petrochemistry (NAS), where she conducted and co-authored an academic study published in 2006.
Najib Khan Surattee
His 12 years’ experience as a staff engineer in the field of research and development has allowed him to write both personal patents and joint inventors. Hence, Najib believes that passion alone is not sufficient to achieve an objective. Equally important are inspiration, hard work and dedication. he inculcates his students to possess all these factors.
His relief teaching experience in Raffles Girls (Physics for Gifted Education Program), Cedar Girls (Mathematics) and Dunman High (Science) has helped him a lot in gaining experience in handling a bigger and challenging group of students. Nathanael’s affinity for Science has been manifested at his teens. He has attained excellent grades in Chemistry. He went on to study Materials Science and Engineering as his major.
After graduation, he worked as a Quality Assurance Engineer for medical devices and supported various Research and Development projects for new products. Subsequently, he worked as an Education Executive in Mindlab International and a lecturer in Dimensions International College, both where he taught Chemistry at all levels, including International Baccalaureate at Standard and High levels and GCE ‘A’ Levels, as well Elementary Mathematics at GCE ‘O’ Levels and IGCSE. Matthew is a NIE-trained teacher with a Masters of Educational Research. Having taught History and English at both government and independent schools in Singapore for more than ten years, he has a natural connection with young people and have been able to impart subject-specific content and life skills effectively to them. In training students for their History exams, he has developed very detailed methodology to equip them with writing and public presentation skills.
